What do you think about the Fire's plan for a soccer stadium in the South Loop? Here's what you told us.

We asked readers what they think of the Chicago Fire FC’s plans to build a new 22,000-seat, soccer-only stadium in the South Loop. Here’s what you said, lightly edited for clarity:
“As a Chicago Fire FC season ticket-holder, it’s great news. As a Bridgeport resident, it helps develop the area beyond the South Loop, which connects us to the Loop. I’m still skeptical this will happen, because money calls the shots.”— Eusebio Islas Jr.
“Sounds great. They should have built a Bears stadium there, but whatever.”— Justice Leppanen
“Pro sports are stupid. Build a few neighborhood soccer fields for kids to kick a ball around in instead. It’ll solve your teen takeover problem.”— Collin Pearsall
“This is a great model for all Chicago sports teams: Privately fund and build out underdeveloped spaces that are already on or near existing infrastructure. I wasn’t a Chicago Fire soccer fan until yesterday.”— Christopher Engler
“Maybe the Stars can play there, too.”— Ian Hochman-Reid
“I’d rather they invest in players. They have been irrelevant in this league for over 15 years. ... Plus, this area is being developed using TIF money, which comes from taxes, so not fully privately funded.”— Scafel Fonte
“A former neighbor from my very young childhood years, Joe Mansueto, is going to help build up the southern area of the great city of Chicago. Way to go, Joe!”— Patricia Gerrity-Schreiber
“As a season ticket-holder, I’m happy they are building a soccer stadium. However, it doesn’t look like there will be much room for parking. We come from the south suburbs and always drive. I don’t want to park miles away and have to take public transportation.”— Lisa Thomas
“Mr. Mansueto says he will finance the stadium privately, but we’ve heard that sort of talk before. Team owners always wind up requesting plenty of taxpayer money even for seemingly ‘privately financed’ stadiums.”— Mark Quinn
“I love it! A small stadium can help the team feel more supported and also more intimidating for the visiting teams.”— Eduardo Balderas
“A new stretch of riverwalk, public green space, and it’s a cool location for a small stadium. Yes, there will be traffic, but we live downtown. Maybe Roosevelt Collection will finally be able to hold onto some tenants with more foot traffic in the area.”— Holly Rowe
“Anything that upsets Jerry Reinsdorf is OK by me.”— Bill Molloy
