Terminal 2 (T2) of Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru has received a 5-Star Airport Terminal Rating from Skytrax, a globally recognised standard for airport quality. This makes it the the first terminal in India to achieve this distinction. The Kempegowda International Airport has also been recognised as the best regional airport in India and South Asia.
According to a press release released by Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) on April 9, the 5-Star Airport Rating has been given after a thorough audit of more than 800 passenger touchpoints across 30 categories, such as terminal design, cleanliness, security, digital integration, hospitality, inclusivity, and sustainability.
“These milestones place Bengaluru on the global aviation stage, and we are deeply grateful to our passengers, partners, and employees for their trust and support,” said Hari Marar, MD & CEO, BIAL, according to PTI.
“With this achievement, BLR Airport becomes the first airport in India to achieve this highest 5-Star Rating, the highest quality recognition for an airport,” Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, said.

The Skytrax World Airport Star Rating was first given 20 years ago and has since grown to become a worldwide standard for assessing quality in the airport sector.
Criteria For Airport Star Rating Levels:
Skytrax assigns ratings of 1-Star to 5-Star for up to 800 customer-facing aspects of airport product and service, spanning 30 different customer interaction points ranging from the airport website to terminal hotel quality.
The rating methodology is standardized across the industry, applying the same foundational criteria to all airports—ranging from major hubs to small regional facilities.
The ratings are based on the front-line customer experience during the entire journey through an airport. Final ratings are applied when an Airport Audit is finished or our audit team has acquired sufficient evidence to do a thorough airport rating.
