Despite a rare position finish at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League in Eugene, Sha'Carri Richardson remains confident in her abilities for the rest of the season. Following an unexpected ninth-place finish at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League in Eugene, Sha'Carri Richardson has found peace in her abilities and remains confident for the rest of the season. The reigning world 100m champion clocked a respectable Season's Best (SB) of 11.19s to improve on her opener at the Seiko Grand Prix in Tokyo, where she finished fourth in 11.47s. She was outclassed by a loaded field that saw her training partner Melissa Jefferson-Wooden power to a brilliant win in an impressive 10.75s (-1.4) ahead of Olympic champion Julien Alfred in 10.77s, while veteran Marie Jose Ta Lou-Smith was third in a Season's Best (SB) time of 10.90s. Richardson, who made a return to competitive racing after three months, confirmed injury setback in February that hampered her progress in training. With the Prefontaine Classic being a major meet to test her current form, the 25-year-old said she had one goal in mind before the race - to finish healthy. "The only motivation I had today was having a healthy race,” she said in a post-race interview. “I prayed for a healthy race, and I got a healthy race, so I accept that." Richardson, who has a bye to compete in the 100m at the World Championships in Tokyo this September, is using the extended season to rebuild her rhythm and confidence. She emphasized that her focus now is on execution, faith, and mental preparation. "If you don’t believe in yourself first, you can’t expect anyone else to believe," she added. "When I’m 100%, there’s nothing that can really stop me but me.’ The Paris Olympics 100m silver medallist also spoke about the energy of the Eugene crowd, calling Hayward Field a ‘magic stadium’ and praising the sold-out atmosphere as a rare show of respect for track and field in the U.S. "The magic is here, the love is here, and I appreciate it every single time." Looking ahead, Richardson plans to spend the next two weeks sharpening her speed endurance to be in the best shape on her return to Eugene for the US Trials, where she has stated she'll only focus on the 200m.
