‘Where’s The Rest?’ Tiny Dubai Room Listed For Rs 62,000 Monthly Rent Shocks Internet
@Source: news18.com
Dubai is typically known for its luxurious lifestyle, where people live in spacious apartments and travel in high end automobiles. But the truth is, even renting a small space in the city can empty your pockets. Recently, an Instagram page shocked the internet by listing a tiny room in the fancy Marina area for AED 2700 per month (approximately Rs 62,000). The room, described as “Ready-to-move-in, partition with balcony,” is so small it can only fit a single bed, a cupboard and a bedside table. Many people were stunned by the high rent for such a small space and couldn’t help but compare the price to flats in Mumbai, where similar sized properties might cost less.
In Dubai, a partition simply means a small section separated from an apartment or villa, created using temporary walls, glass dividers or even curtains. In the caption, the page wrote, “Ready-to-move-in, partition with balcony for rent in Marina, Dubai. Ladies only apartment. Rent 2700, Deposit 500 (approximately Rs 11,000).”

Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “My claustrophobia got triggered.”
Another asked, “Where’s the rest of it?”
“It’s heaven for Mumbaikars,” a comment read.
An individual jokingly mentioned, “Balcony is bigger than the room.”
Another wondered, “Isn’t it too big?”
One more added, “Marina is like Mumbai in India, for Rs 60,000, you will get only this much.”
While this may surprise many, for people living in Dubai, this is not new. Many immigrants, especially singles and those with lower incomes, choose to live in these small spaces. It allows them to stay in popular areas like Marina, Jumeirah and Downtown without spending a huge sum on multiple bedroom apartments. Living in partitions also helps workers stay close to their offices, public transport and entertainment spots. However, there are often concerns about how safe and legal these types of accommodations really are.
According to Gulf News, rent prices in Dubai have gone up after the Dubai Land Department launched the real time Rental Index in January. An agent explained, “There is no rental correction going on in Dubai right now.”
Landlords who are permitted to raise the rent based on the new data, are doing it without hesitation. The agent also mentioned that landlords have no reason to stop increasing rents, and now it’s up to the tenants to choose whether they want to continue living in the same place or move out.
