Ireland's left-arm spinner Matthew Humphreys created history by taking a six-wicket haul in the one-off Test against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. The 22-year-old cricketer's brilliant show on Day 4 and 5 helped Ireland win the match by 63 runs. Humphreys's match-winning spell also saw him break a major national record previously held by his teammate Andy McBrine. Have a look at his journey. Humphreys bowled 28 overs in the match-winning innings of the Test, where Zimbabwe were chasing 292. He trapped Nick Welch before breaking Brian Bennett's 65-run stand with Wessly Madhevere for the fifth wicket. Later in the day, he dismissed Zimbabwe skipper Johnathan Campbell and Nyasha Mayavo. On Day 5, Humphreys got two more wickets, ending with figures of 6/57 and ensuring a win for Ireland. Humphreys's 6/57 are the now the best bowling figures for an Irish bowler in Test cricket, bettering the previous record by off-spinner Andy McBrine. In April 2023, McBrine had taken six wicket for 118 runs in the match against Bangladesh in Mirpur. Interestingly, no other bowler has taken a six-wicket haul for Ireland in the format. Humphreys, born on September 28, 2002, is a left-arm spinner (slow left-arm orthodox). The 22-year-old has featured in just seven First-Class games, including three Tests. His short FC career already has three fifers. Humphreys has also played 26 List and 27 T20 games, averaging uder 30 in each of these formats. He made his debut in all three international formats in 2023.
