There were just three singers remaining - Breanna Nix, John Foster and Jamal Roberts - after Slater Nalley and Thunderstorm Artis were sent home last week. Sunday's finale marked the end of Carrie Underwood's first season as a judge, which came 20 years after she won the show herself back in Season 4, over Bo Bice. All three singers performed, along with a slew of guest voices like Season 23 mentor Jelly Roll, plus, Jessica Simpson, Salt-N-Pepa, Goo Goo Dolls, Josh Groban and Patti LaBelle. When it was all said and done, Jamal Roberts was crowned the Season 23 champion of American Idol at the end of the three-hour finale, over John Foster.
