In the picture they are holding a chocolate replica and have applied a static effect. If that were a real Cobolt 60 rod the static effect would come from radiation hitting the camera sensors and the person would be dead now. [Fark user image image 700x434] It's a pretty strong gamma emitter with a long (5 year IIRC) half life. Gets used in industrial radiography, for very thick/dense materials. Put it this way, I worked as a radiographer in the Navy and Co60 was considered overkill for imaging submarine hulls and piping welds, so we never got to use it. They said the big shipyards used it for Xraying lead castings for reactor shielding. Don Cherry's tailor (0) Funniest 15 minutes ago It was a joke on the pallbearers. stuhayes2010 (0) Funniest 14 minutes ago I doubt her coffin "wasn't made of wood but 2.5mm lead". Lead isn't renowned for its tensile strength, so a 2.5mm lead casket would fall to pieces when moved. Maybe lead lined wood, but really putting her body in the ground is all the shielding you would need.
