Australia rugby star Brandon Paenga-Amosa was involved in a dramatic beach rescue as he saved a man from drowning despite admitting he can "barely swim himself". The 29-year-old hooker - who has won 16 caps for the Wallabies - was at Sydney's famous Coogee Beach ahead of his Western Force team's clash with the Waratahs when he noticed a man struggling in the surf. Springing into action, Paenga-Amosa dragged the man to safety on the sand, with a video of his heroics soon surfacing online. He was quizzed about the incident after the Force beat Fijian Drua 52-15 on Sunday and admitted he found himself in the "right place at the right time" to help the struggling beachgoer. "Mate, we can't have you on the field here and not ask you about saving a man's life in the surf in Sydney a couple of weeks ago," said Stan Sport host Michael Atkinson. "Is this Brandon Paenga-Hasselhoff or what's going on there? You literally saved a man's life." Paenga-Amosa jokingly replied: ""Brandon Paenga-Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson," before adding: "Oh mate, I was just doing my thing. I just happened to be there, right place, right time, you know. "I can barely swim, so thank God he wasn't any deeper mate, because I don't think I would have got to him. I would have just given him a mana wave and said 'good luck mate.' Thank God it was only knee height." Asked where the lifeguards were during the frightening episode, the front rower added: "'They got there, they looked at me, I looked at them, and I was like, 'Mate, I'm doing your job for you, mate. Thirty [dollars] an hour and I'll sign up'. "I'll be honest with you, I just so happened to be there. I didn't really necessarily run in. He just kind of came past me and I said, 'Brother, I got you, man'." After starting his Super Rugby career with the Queensland Reds, Paenga-Amosa played in the Top 14 for Montpellier between 2021 and last year, when he returned to Australia to join the Force. He also featured against Wales in last year's autumn internationals.
