Mumbai Indians’ star all-rounder Natalie Sciver-Brunt took home the MVP of the season award after her tremendous campaign with bat and ball to power her franchise to their second Women’s Premier League title after the win by 8 runs against Delhi Capitals on Saturday.
She ends her campaign as the season’s highest run-scorer with 523 runs from 10 games at an average of 65.37 and a strike-rate of 152.47. She also had a fine display with the ball, picking up 12 wickets, which included her crucial three-wicket haul in the final, which turned the tides in MI’s favour in the big finale.
She joins her fellow teammate, Hayley Matthews, to become the second player from the franchise to have won the award. Deepti Sharma of the UP Warriorz won the award after the 2024 season as well.
She struck early on to remove DC’s captain, Meg Lanning, in the second over of the innings. She showcased some fine death bowling as well to give back-to-back wickets in the 18th over to remove the dangerous Marizanne Kapp and Shikha Pandey to put MI back in front as well.
She remains extremely pleased after her tremendous campaign and credited the amount of cricket played prior to the tournament to play a big role behind her form.
“So pleased. Been a great year for me in the WPL, and coming on the back of a lot of cricket, I’m so happy to be standing here as a winner,” she shared in the post-match presentation ceremony.
She also credited the side for having some talented players that raised their hands up when needed and feels special for playing for MI as well.
“I will ride the highs whilst I can, and there are some lows around the corner, and that’s cricket, I guess. We have a great amount of all-rounders in our team and some world-class players in our team who can stand up at any point of time. Very lucky to be part of that team. It’s so special to be part of a franchise that has become a family. It has been amazing, and we are really, really happy,” she concluded
MI became the first side to win two titles in the WPL. After having won in the inaugural edition, the franchise doubled their tally with a historic win at home to give Harmanpreet Kaur and co their second title as well, and Natalie Sciver-Brunt had a big role to play in both victories.
