'Yashasvi Jaiswal Isn't Focusing On Cricket': India Star Given 'Prithvi Shaw' Warning After Inconsistent Start To IPL 2025

Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal hasn’t made an ideal start to IPL 2025. The young opener has scored 107 runs from five matches so far with 67 of them coming in one innings. The last two seasons were quite productive for the 23-year-old. He racked up 625 runs in 14 innings during IPL 2023 and followed up with 435 runs from 15 innings last year. Thanks to two stellar seasons, RR retained him ahead of the IPL mega auction for a whopping Rs 18 crore. It’s still early days but former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali feels that the way Jaiswal has been batting, it appears he’s not fully focused on his game. “His stomach has filled. Jaiswal isn’t focusing on cricket. This is my open message: Cricket can make you cry a lot. Look at Prithvi Shaw. Love cricket and bring passion,” Basit said on his YouTube channel. Basit was referring to the steep fall Shaw has endured since making his India debut in 2018 with a sparkling Test century. The Mumbai cricketer’s India career has come to a halt, and he’s been dealing with inconsistency and disciplinary issues. Shaw went unsold at the IPL mega auction last year. Recently, Jaiswal switched his domestic team, quitting Mumbai to join Goa after alleged rift with Ajinkya Rahane. “Goa has thrown me a new opportunity and it has offered me a leadership role. My first goal will be to do well for India and whenever I’m not on national duty, I will be playing for Goa and try to make them go deep into the tournament. This was an (important) opportunity which came my way and I just took it,” Jaiswal told The Indian Express. Meanwhile, Basit feels that batting stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma did the right thing by deciding to retire from T20Is following India’s triumph at the World Cup last year. “Rohit and Virat made the right decision to retire. I felt Virat shouldn’t have retired, but it was the right decision. India has a lot of players,” Basit said.
