A former England defender revealed an exchange with Joseph Yobo which left his ego deflated. Former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott recently revealed how Super Eagles legend Joseph Yobo inadvertently deflated his ego. The former England international was teammates with Yobo at Everton, and on a recent appearance on the Beast Mode podcast with ex-footballer Adebayo Akinfenwa, he narrated an exchange with the Super Eagles legend which humbled him. What Lescott said The 42-year-old joined Everton 20 years ago from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship. Having never played in the Premier League, Yobo was not familiar with him. Lescott explained that the reality of being obscure dazed him and he had to work harder. “Joseph Yobo, he’s a funny mate. I’ve been there [Everton] and he asked where I played. That was humbling. That was the first time I've been humbled,” Lescott said. “I was like, 'Oh?' I have to prove myself again? He was so calm. And I asked, ‘You really don’t know?’ So I’m thinking, if he is in my team and don’t know, no one’s going to know. Yobo and Lescott went on to form a sturdy partnership in defence for Everton before Lescott made a step up to join Manchester City during the 2009/10 season. The 2013 AFCON winner left a season later for Fenerbahce in the Turkish Super Lig. Like Victor Osimhen, he won the league title in his first season in Turkey.
