Yuvraj Singh Reveals Why He Doesn't Want His Son To Be A Cricketer

Yuvraj Singh is one of the greatest cricketers of all time. The 43-year-old former all-rounder played at the highest level for more than 17 years and won the ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy title with the Indian men’s cricket team along with multiple IPL titles with Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians. The Chandigarh-born cricketer is the son of former fast bowler Yograj Singh, who also played Test and ODI cricket for India. Even though Yuvraj followed his father’s footsteps and became a legendary cricketer, he doesn’t want his three-year-old son Orion to become a cricketer. While speaking on the Curly Tales YouTube channel, the hero of India’s 2011 ODI World Cup title win said he doesn’t want his son to play cricket, but if he still decides to become a cricketer, then he will support him. “Cricket ka bahut shauk padh gaya hai usey (Orion) since he has seen me playing. Every time I see him, he is like, ‘Dad, I want to play cricket with you,’ and I am like, ‘No, I don’t want you to play cricket.’ I am not saying this to him but more to me inside,” Yuvraj said. “I don’t want him to play cricket for sure. If he wants to play, I will support him. I feel there’s just too much pressure as a kid. Playing cricket in today’s society is just like every kid is compared to his father’s legacy. I feel that’s very unfair. Because not everyone can have the same talent. Kisi mei hoga, kisi mein nahi hoga. Kisi mein kisi aur cheej ka talent hoga. But if he wants to play, I will definitely support him,” he added. Yuvraj’s career in numbers Yuvraj made his international debut for India on October 3, 2000, against Kenya during the ICC Knockout Trophy match in Nairobi. He, however, didn’t get a chance to bat in that game, but he did bowl four overs and conceded 16 runs. Yuvraj played a total of 40 Tests, 304 ODIs and 58 T20Is for Team India and scored over 11,000 runs along with taking 148 wickets across three formats. He entered his name in the history books on September 18, 2007, by becoming the first cricketer in the world to hit six sixes in an over of a T20I match, and he also won the Player of the Tournament award in the 2011 ODI World Cup for scoring 361 runs and taking 15 wickets.
