Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Brazil on Tuesday, emphasised India’s firm position against terrorism, while also highlighting deepening cooperation between the two countries in key sectors including defence, agriculture, health, clean energy, and emerging technologies.
Speaking at a bilateral engagement, PM Modi said, “Our thinking on the fight against terrorism is aligned – zero tolerance and zero double standards. Our clear stance is that there is no place for double standards on terrorism. We strongly oppose terrorism and those who support it.”
Amid global uncertainties, the Prime Minister underlined the strategic importance of the India-Brazil relationship. He also said all disputes should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.
“Today, as the world navigates through a phase of tension and uncertainty, the India-Brazil partnership is a vital pillar of stability and balance. We are unanimous that all disputes should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy,” he said.
On the economic front, PM Modi highlighted the long-standing cooperation in agriculture and animal husbandry, stating that both countries will now expand collaboration into agricultural research and food processing. He also noted progress in the health sector, calling it a “win-win cooperation” that continues to grow.
Defence cooperation between the two nations was also mentioned as a key area of mutual trust. “Growing cooperation in the field of defence is a symbol of our deep mutual trust. We will continue our efforts to connect our defence industries,” the Prime Minister stated.
PM Modi pointed to advancements in technological cooperation as well, stating, “Our collaboration in Artificial Intelligence and supercomputers is growing. This is a testament to our shared vision of inclusive development and human-centric innovation.”
In the energy sector, the Prime Minister acknowledged continuous progress and mutual commitment to environmental sustainability. “Our cooperation in the field of energy is continuously growing. Environment and clean energy are the main priorities of both countries. The agreement signed today to enhance cooperation in this field will provide new direction and momentum to our green goals,” he said.
PM Modi was conferred with Brazil’s highest civilian award, the Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross.
The honour was presented by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, in recognition of PM Modi’s notable contributions to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing India-Brazil cooperation across key global platforms.
This is the 26th international honour bestowed upon PM Modi by a foreign government since he assumed office in May 2014.
