Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by 59 runs in their 13th league match of IPL 2025 played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday (May 21). The second win of the ongoing season over DC helped MI confirm their place in the top four and also qualify for IPL 2025 playoffs. After MI sealed the qualification, franchise owner Akash Ambani expressed his happiness over the team’s performance and said that it is heartening to see the team achieving the primary objective.
“Congratulations. Having the Q next to our name is what we all wanted to achieve. Before when we got together for the season, we all said that the first step is to qualify for the playoffs. To see us finally have that Q next to our name is really heartening to see. Kudos to each and every one of you on the field and off the field to create that environment. Environments are the most important thing in a cricket tournament. We have a fantastic environment, and that’s what we need to continue,” Ambani said in a video posted by MI on Instagram.

In the match played at Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday (May 21), after being invited to bat first by Delhi Capitals stand-in captain Faf du Plessis, MI rode on Suryakumar Yadav’s unbeaten 73-run knock to post a total of 180 runs on the board for the loss of five wickets. During his stay in the crease, Surya faced 43 balls and hammered seven fours and four sixes.
The 181-run target was a challenging one for DC, and it became even more difficult after Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult removed DC openers – Faf and KL Rahul – inside the first three overs. While Faf was caught by Mitchell Santner off Chahar’s bowling in the second over, wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton completed Rahul’s catch on the fourth ball of the third over of the run chase bowled by Boult.
DC never managed to recover from that early setback and could only manage to score 121 runs in 18.2 overs. For MI, Santner finished with figures of 3 for 11 in four overs, and Bumrah dismissed three DC batters for 12 runs in his quota of 3.2 overs.
