At least 11 people were killed and over 30 injured in a stampede-like situation outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday evening. Massive crowds had gathered to welcome the RCB players, who were to be felicitated by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah after their historic win in the IPL 2025 final against Punjab Kings.
Following their victory on Tuesday night, jubilant fans had taken to the streets across Bengaluru to celebrate the team’s maiden IPL title in 18 years. The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) had organised a felicitation ceremony inside the stadium. However, the unmanageable crowd, many without valid entry passes, led to chaos.
Eyewitnesses reported fans climbing fences and scaling walls to get inside, desperate to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars. The situation quickly spiralled out of control, leading to a deadly stampede.
Just hours before the tragedy, Anushka Sharma had shared joyous moments from the victory parade, riding along with Virat Kohli and the RCB squad as they were welcomed by massive crowds across the city. The celebration turned somber with the tragic news.
