In a bizarre series of events, Ahmer bin Nasir’s Bahrain were dismissed for nought in the super over during a game against Yasim Murtaza’s Hong Kong in Kuala Lumpur, in the ongoing Malaysia Tri-Nation T20I Series. Hong Kong came into the match having been defeated by Bahrain in their previous clash in the series last week. Opting to bat first, Hong Kong posted a paltry 129/7, with Pakistan-born Shahid Wasif scoring 31 while batting at No. 6. Rizwan Butt picked two wickets for Bahrain. ? Thriller at the Bayuemas! Bahrain were soon reduced to 67/5 in the 15th over, before Nasir and Imran Anwar built a 42-run partnership for the sixth wicket to take their team closer to the target, before Anwar was dismissed in the 18th over by Ateeq Iqbal. With 13 runs needed off the last over, six runs came off the first four balls before Nasir smacked Nasrulla Rana for a six to bring the equation down to 1 off 1. But Nasir was caught behind on the final ball to level the scores and take the match into a super over. Nasir was dismissed on the second ball of the super over, Sohail Ahmed departed on the third, and Bahrain’s score was at 0/2. Babar Hayat needed three balls to score a single and win the thriller. Section two of ICC’s T20I playing conditions ‘Super Over Procedure’ says: ‘The loss of two wickets shall end the batting team’s one over innings’. The Malaysia Tri-Nation T20I series is being played among Malaysia, Bahrain and Hong Kong. Bahrain are currently the table-toppers with six points from four matches, and Friday’s loss was their first in the tournament. Bhubaneswar-born Anshy Rath, who plays for Hong Kong, is currently the highest run-scorer in the tournament, with 135 runs in three matches at an average of 45. Sialkot-born Ali Dawood, who plays for Bahrain, is the highest wicket-taker, with seven wickets in four matches, at an average of 12.57. Malaysia and Hong Kong will play the final league game on Saturday, March 15, with the final between the latter and Bahrain scheduled for Monday.
