Brighton's Aston Villa preparations suffer double injury blow in Champions League race

Fabian Hurzeler has revealed two key players will miss Wednesday night’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa and fears they could be lost for the season. Speaking ahead of the game at The Amex, which marks Villa’s first league match in nearly a month, the Seagulls’ head coach ruled out Georginio Rutter and Adam Webster – with the former looking likes he’s played his last game of the campaign due to an ankle injury. The former Leeds player twisted his ankle in Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final loss to Nottingham Forest – and his absence could afford Brajan Gruda just a sixth Premier League start since joining from Mainz last summer. Webster will miss out with a muscle injury but Hurzeler has plenty of options in the heart of his defence. "So, both injuries, I can say they don't look great," Hurzeler said. "So we have to add them on our injury list. It's possible [they will miss the rest of the season]. “I see more like an opportunity because we always are able to replace the players who were injured. And now it's another chance for Gruda, another chance for Matt O’Riley. Another chance for [Eiran] Cashin and Lewis [Dunk] coming back. So I see it more as an opportunity. "I will never complain about the injuries. Of course Georginio and also Adam, they were in great shape but that's football, we have to deal with it. We have to deal with the injuries this season and therefore we are always a team able to replace the injured players. "Now other players have the chance to step in and that's why I'm really looking forward to. The players who have the possibility now and the chance to start the game or to replace the injured players. “They can show their potential, and therefore we try to help them so they can get integrated as quickly as possible.” Brighton are just two points and two places ahead of Villa in the table, with both teams still in with a shot of qualifying for the Champions League.
