Champions Trophy: Abrar Ahmed shares insights about battle with Virat Kohli

Pakistani leg-spinner, Abrar Ahmed, recently opened up about bowling to Indian cricket star, Virat Kohli. Although he didn't get Kohli out in their latest 2025 Champions Trophy clash, Ahmed bowled an economical spell. He baged the wicket of Indian vice-captain Shubman Gill and received some criticism for his celebrations post-dismissal. Meanwhile, the match was Ahmed's first against arch-rivals India in his ninth ODI. Ahmed bowled 30 deliveries to Kohli in his 10 overs in the match. Kohli scored a century in this game but only managed to score 16 runs off Ahmed. The Pakistani spinner gushed about Kohli's fitness as quoted by Telecom Asia Sport, saying, The way he runs between the wicket is eye-catching and that's what makes him a unique cricketer. Kohli is a great batter, we all know that. But he is a great human being too, Ahmed further added. As mentioned, in the match, Ahmed dismissed Gill with a googly and celebrated his wicket with a gesture that went viral. Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram criticized Ahmed for his celebration style. However, the Pakistani spinner defended himself saying, That's my style and I see nothing wrong with it... It was not my intention to hurt anyone. No official told me that I did anything wrong but if it hurt anyone, I am sorry for that, he further added. After the match, Kohli also complimented Ahmed by saying 'well bowled.' This gesture stayed with the young Pakistani spinner. It was a great challenge and I took the liberty of teasing him, asking him to hit me a six but he never got angry, Ahmed said about his experience bowling to Kohli. I have grown up idolizing Kohli. He said, 'well bowled' after the match, and that made my day, Ahmed further spoke about his admiration for the Indian batter. As mentioned, Ahmed has featured in 10 ODIs so far. He has claimed a total of 15 scalps at an average of 26.93. He also owns one four-wicket haul alongside an economy rate of 4.69. His best bowling inning reads 4/33. According to ESPNcricinfo, in the Champions Trophy, he managed two scalps in two innings. Overall, he owns 37 List A wickets across 24 innings at 27.18, including an economy rate of 4.59.
