Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has requested the Central government to take steps to hold the Khelo India Games — 2026 edition in Telangana.
He wanted the Centre to explore options for holding national and international sports events other than Khelo India — 2026 in the State. The Chief Minister made the request when he called on Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi on Monday.
He urged the Union Minister to sanction adequate funds to Telangana for developing sports infrastructure, training of sportspersons and other works. The Centre should consider sanction of ₹100 crore for various sports infrastructure development works like synthetic athletic track, multi-purpose indoor stadium, archery range in Hakimpet on the city outskirts, squash court in LB stadium among others.
He explained to Mr. Mandaviya that his government was taking all necessary steps to improve and strengthen sports infrastructure and urged him to ensure that Telangana would host at least two events in the Olympics to be held in the country in 2036. Mr. Revanth Reddy wanted the Union government to restore concessional travel in trains to sportsmen participating in the national level sports events.
