Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming shocked the cricketing universe by revealing that Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of IPL 2025. The CSK captain is down with an elbow injury and isn't fit to play. MS Dhoni has been reappointed CSK's captain and will take over the charge when the Yellow Army takes on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday (April 11). CSK shared a couple of posts after Fleming's mega announcement. One of their four-word post after the announcement went viral and has more than 7 lakh views. The fans got to know about the change in captaincy after they spotted Ruturaj at the captains' photoshoot. The IPL 2023 final, which CSK won, was Dhoni's previous game as their captain. Ruturaj-led CSK crashed out of the league stage of IPL 2024. They lost their must-win last league stage game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and failed to make it to the second round. CSK kicked off their IPL 2025 campaign with a win over Mumbai Indians but have struggled since then. They only have 1 win from 5 matches and are at the 9th spot in the points table. Another few defeats here will put CSK on the cusp of elimination. Ruturaj Gaikwad's record as captain Ruturaj, who made his IPL captaincy debut for CSK in 2024, has 8 wins and 11 defeats from 19 matches as captain. The opening batsman has captained India in T20Is. As for Dhoni, he is the only captain in IPL's history with more than 100 wins. He has 133 wins from 226 matches as the captain. Apart from CSK, Dhoni also captained Rising Pune Supergiant in a season. Dhoni captained CSK to 5 IPL title wins before stepping down.
