Twelve months ago, Great Barrington's Dion Brown went into the transfer portal and surfaced at Boston College.
Now, the former Monument Mountain standout is back in the portal, trying to find another location after what had to be a somewhat disappointing season at BC. He is one of more than 1,100 players who have entered the transfer portal since it opened on Monday.
According to the Boston College website, Brown had come in as a traditional transfer with two years remaining.
Brown is one of three Eagles off of coach Earl Grant's roster who have put their names into the portal. Joining the junior guard is senior guard Josh Beadle and sophomore forward Elijah Strong.
The former Spartan came to BC after two outstanding years at UMBC of the America East, and had an up-and-down year for the Eagles. He averaged 7.5 points and 3.9 rebounds for a team that went 12-19, 4-16 in the ACC, and did not qualify for the ACC Tournament.
Brown played in all 31 games, started 29 and averaged 25.7 minutes per game. Eight times, Brown had double-digit scoring games, including in his final three games of the regular season.
It was a slow-starting season for Brown, who came into the 2024-25 campaign having suffered a broken nose and a concussion during training camp.
He had two, 20-point games. They came in losses to SMU and an overtime loss at North Carolina.
"Coming from my previous school, I shot 15 shots a game and shot 50 percent. I don't even know what I'm shooting, but it's not 50 percent," Brown said to The Eagle after a November loss to Dartmouth. "My coach likes to say don't focus on the percentages, focus on a progression. I'm in the gym, asking the coach what I can do to get better, and just keep building on."
Brown came to BC last April after a stellar season at UMBC. He was a first-team, All-America East selection, averaging 19 points and 7.6 rebounds per game for the Retrievers.
Beadle was, along with Brown, one of the high-profile transfers who came to Boston College.
Beadle, a 6-foot-3 guard, came to BC out of the portal from ACC rival Clemson. He averaged 5.9 points per game, and was second on the team with 61 assists.
Strong, a 6-foot-8 forward, was a key recruit as a freshman for Grant. Strong averaged 9.6 points per game. He has already received interest from teams in five different conferences, including the ACC and the Big Ten.
