HYDERABAD: The Telangana District Cricket Association (TDCA) has urged the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) to ensure fair representation for over 300 rural cricket clubs and called for the development of cricket infrastructure beyond metropolitan limits. The TDCA stressed that inclusive measures were essential for the balanced and holistic growth of the sport in. Over 100 TDCA members, led by chairman Allipuram Venkateshwar Reddy, staged a protest outside the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal on July 19, coinciding with the HCA’s extended 87th annual general meeting (AGM). Venkateshwar Reddy said the protest was aimed at voicing rural concerns during the AGM and demanding equitable representation for clubs from the districts. However, the group was detained by police, reportedly acting on instructions from HCA office-bearers, preventing them from placing their demands before the council.Reddy also demanded that the Hyderabad Cricket Association be renamed the Telangana Cricket Association to better reflect the organisation’s mandate and the geography it claims to represent. He pointed out that while the HCA currently comprises around 216 clubs, nearly all are concentrated within the GHMC limits, with just nine representing the remaining 31 districts. He reiterated that such an imbalance undermines the spirit of inclusive cricket development and urged the association to initiate immediate reforms in its structure and outreach.
