Donald Trump 'will run for a third term' as US President – 'he will win'

Donald Trump is reportedly eyeing loopholes to sidestep the constitutional rule that prevents US presidents from having more than two terms, according to his ex-advisor. Steve Bannon, the former White House Chief Strategist, reckons The Donald could clinch victory if he manages to wriggle into a third term as the big boss. In what seems like a cheeky nod to future ambitions, the Trump Organisation is flogging red hats emblazoned with "Trump 2028". "There are methods which you could do it. President Trump is going to be eligible, is going to run again, and will win again," Bannon, who dished out advice from January 2017 to August 2017 and has kept up with Trump, claimed on the podcast 'Apocalypse Now?'. Bannon, now hosting his own daily live podcast, boldly predicted: "I will tell you, on the afternoon of the 20th January of 2029, he's going be in the White House signing executive orders.", reports the Mirror . The US constitution puts a cap on presidential terms at two, but Trump has previously hinted at "methods" – though not concrete "plans" – to dodge this rule and cling onto power. On the Daily Mail podcast with David Patrikarakos, Bannon was adamant that the 78 year old ex-President would find a way around the two-term limit. Tapping into wild claims that Joe Biden "stole" the 2020 election, Bannon added: "The whole reason he came back and ran again was his burning conviction that he had won in 2020, it had been stolen.. "His inner group and our audience - almost to a person, I think it's almost 100 per cent - believe strongly to the core of their being that the 2020 election was stolen." Despite his brief return as US President, Mr Trump has already raised concerns about a potential economic downturn. He's intensified his trade war tactics, leading central banks to consider cutting borrowing costs to inject more cash into consumer and business spending. The situation on the international stage is also fraught with tension. Mr Bannon acknowledges that Mr Trump aims to avoid a "kinetic war" with China by treating Beijing with "respect" and striving for "some sort of accommodation". However, amidst worries that China may be planning an invasion of Taiwan – which it views as a breakaway province due to be reclaimed by 2027 – Mr Bannon, aged 71, stood by the president's stance towards China. After serving four months in prison last year following a conviction for contempt of Congress, Mr Bannon remarked: "I think President Trump's doing what a world leader and the leader of the free world and the president of United States and our commander-in-chief should do - to show the guys respect and try to make sure that we can get some sort of accommodation."
