An East Kilbride brother and sister have scooped trophies at the Competition Team Scottish Cup in March. Josh and Jessica Davidson were part of a Master Hutton Fitness team that won five gold, 13 silver and four bronze from the taekwondo competition at the town’s PlaySport, which saw them crowned third overall club. Josh, 10, won gold in pattern and sparring, while seven-year-old Jessica took silver in sparring, as part of a highly successful weekend for the 17-strong team. Master Hutton, 8th Dan, said: Our team of 17 competitors were amazing as always, but a huge congratulations to those who stepped onto the floor for their very first time and represented team MHF with such class. “There were 17 kids, the kids are wonderful. They train here three or four times a week, with squad trainings and things like that. “Josh has been training since he was three, and it takes an average of eight years to get their black belt. “It’s a martial art, the kids have to get permission from school teachers and things like that before they go for gradings, so it’s quite comprehensive. “Josh now will be 10, going on 11; I don’t allow black belts under 12, and they have to be training for eight years. “Josh was picked as a mascot for Team GB Olympics last year, and was the only Scottish member of the team. “The tasks they do to get the opportunity to go to these tournaments, they really pay their dues. They’re cracking wee kids and very talented – especially Josh, who is an exceptional all-rounder in patterns and sparring.” Master Hutton Fitness has been long-established, and he says the club is thriving. He said: “We’ve been in East Kilbride for the last 36 years, and so many of the guys here, including instructors who are World and European champions, have been here for years. “My chief instructor Jack Lobban is now 24 and he came along here at four-years-old as well. “Jack is a current double European champion and a World silver medallist. These are legitimate World Championships, involving 134 countries. It’s not held in a big hotel area somewhere, these are big national stadiums. “They’re off to Croatia this year, and Bosnia in a couple of weeks’ time for the Euros.
