Bud Light's former marketing vice president Alissa Heinerscheid, who was blamed for the fallout following the brand's brief partnership with trans activist Dylan Mulvaney, has a new role—at Saudi funded LIV Golf.Newsweek reached out to LIV Golf and Bud Light brewer Anheuser-Busch via email for comment on Wednesday. The ContextIn 2023, Bud Light partnered with Mulvaney for a campaign, and the company gifted her personalized, not-for-sale cans of beer with her face on them to commemorate 365 days of her living as a woman, following the viral success of Mulvaney's Days of Girlhood video series, which charted her first year of transitioning.Mulvaney's video with the product shared on April 1, ensued was one of the year's biggest culture wars, with conservatives boycotting the beer. Bud Light's sales fell up to 26 percent in the month following the social media ad.What To KnowHeinerscheid took a leave of absence from Anheuser-Busch in April 2023—alongside group vice president of marketing Daniel Blake—following a conservative boycott of the then-biggest beer brand in America.Speaking before the ad and fallout, Heinerscheid told Make Yourself at Home on March 23: "I am a businesswoman. I had a really clear job to do when I took over Bud Light, it was...this brand is in decline."She added that "representation is sort of the heart of evolution. You've got to see people who reflect you in the work. And we had this hangover—I mean, Bud Light had been kind of a brand of fratty, kind of out-of-touch humor, and it was really important that we had another approach."Yet following campaign with Mulvaney, Bud Light suffered declining sales, with singer Kid Rock shooting cans of Bud Light with a gun and reports of fights in bars.Heinerscheid joined Bud Light in July of 2022 and became the first woman to lead the company. According to her LinkedIn profile, her role at the company was to hone decisions around media, content, PR and partnerships. She worked for Anheuser-Buschon, Bud Light's parent company, for about 9 years. Now, according to a recent LinkedIn update, Heinerscheid has now joined LIV Golf, where she has been working for eight months.LIV Golf is a controversial professional tour backed by Saudia Arabia's Public Investment Fund that launched as a rival to the PGA Tour in 2022. It has attracted big-name players including Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and Bryson DeChambeau.U.S. President Donald Trump, a keen golfer, has repeatedly urged LIV Golf and PGA tours to unite. "That'll be good. I'm involved in that too," Trump told reporters on a flight to Miami last week. What People Are SayingDylan Mulvaney previously told Newsweek about the fallout: "My instinct was to run away and not be associated with this thing. And I was like, 'Nothing good can come from this horrible situation if I don't confront it head-on, and I won't be able to move through and heal from it.' And I finally feel like, knock on wood, I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel."What Happens NextTalks between the PGA Tour, LIV Golf uniting are continuing with President Trump's continued involvement.
