Fishing tournament, live comedy and rummage sales: Your guide to the 2025 Freeland Walleye Festival

FREELAND, MI — The Freeland Lions Club is reeling in the fun once again with the 39th annual Freeland Walleye Festival, set for Thursday, April 24, through Sunday, April 27. This four-day community celebration features competitive fishing, live comedy, a parade and a carnival along the Tittabawassee River. Community-wide rummage sales, a staple of the annual event, kick off at 8 a.m. Friday. The annual parade starts at 6 p.m. at Freeland Elementary School, with lineup beginning at 5 p.m. Friday night also features a comedy show starring Dave Landau and Matt Conn at the Burt Watson Showroom, 7468 Midland Road. Doors open for this 21+ event at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and available at EventBrite.com. For details, email walleyefestivalcomedy@gmail.com. At midnight, anglers will cast off in the official Walleye Festival fishing tournament, which continues until 3 p.m. Sunday. Saturday brings even more action with a Texas Hold’em tournament, a Phish Pong showdown and a kid’s trout pond opening at 9 a.m. at Hayes Park, 9200 Midland Road. Sunday wraps up the festival with a 5K/10K run and walk at the Freeland Sports Zone, 5690 Midland Road, at 8 a.m., and a disc golf tournament at 10 a.m. at Hayes Parks’ Tittabawassee Trails. The weekend concludes with fishing tournament awards after 3 p.m. Sunday. Carnival rides and activities will be held daily.
