Fiji heavyweight boxing champion James ‘The Beast’ Singh is on the verge of a career breakthrough if he wins his fight on Saturday.
The hard hitting Nadroga slugger has secured a spot in Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom promotion where he faces unbeaten Teremoana Jnr.
Hearn is the promoter of former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
Speaking during the press conference in Sydney, Australia, yesterday Hearn said Singh is the man who is going to test Teremoana.
“That is what we want,” Hearn who is a British sports promoter and chairman of Matchroom Boxing said.
Speaking to the media, Singh said de-spite being given two weeks to prepare for the fight, he is not backing out.
“I’m taking the fight to him,” he said. “Many say that it is going to be a walk in the park for him (Teremoana) but I know that I can beat him. I’ll be coming at him.”
Teremoana won the heavyweight gold medal at the 2023 Honiara Pacific Games in Solomon Islands. He qualified for the Paris Olympic Games where he represented Australia in the super heavyweight division.
At the Olympics he knocked out Ukraine’s Dmytro Lovchynskyi in the first round. However, he lost on points in the quarterfinal to the reigning Olympic champion Bakhodir Jalolov.
Teremoana turned professional after the Olympics and signed with Match-room Boxing on November 30, 2024. He won all his six professional fights by knockouts.
The heavyweight contest is the undercard to the main bout between George Kambosos and Jake Wyllie in a super lightweight fight at the Qudos Bank Arena at Sydney Olympic Park.
