New York Yankees fans who use Comcast won’t be pleased to hear that the cable company and YES Network are currently in a contract dispute. Unless something is resolved before Saturday’s matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers, fans with Comcast will have to find a different way to watch the Yankees.
“Both broadcasting parties need to stay at the table and resolve this dispute without impacting fans,” New York Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement Monday. “As your Governor, I am prepared to take further action if this is not resolved, as I’ve done in the past, by directing New York’s Department of Public Service to call public hearings on how consumers are being affected, securing refunds for disruptions and whatever else it takes to resolve broadcasting disruptions for all New Yorkers.”
While the news is inconvenient and unfortunate, there’s still plenty of ways to watch the Yankees this season, even for free.
Where can I watch the Yankees?
Just because YES Network currently doesn’t have a deal with Comcast doesn’t stop YES Network from airing Yankees games. Getting an entirely new cable service is a huge move, and as far as we know the dispute between Comcast and YES Network should be resolved eventually.
That means the easiest way to watch the Yankees during this time is by streaming services such as fuboTV and DirecTV Stream. Both of which provide free trials before making you commit to a monthly payment. The free trial could also serve as a quick fix in the case that YES and Comcast agree to a deal sooner rather than later. Both streaming services include YES Network.
What are the differences between the streaming services?
fuboTV is a live TV streaming service focused on live sports, including U.S. and international soccer, the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL and more. It also includes its own fubo Sports Networks with exclusive programming. It offers 212 channels starting at $54.99 (for one month, then $84.99), includes unlimited DVR, and streams on most devices. Right now you can try fuboTV free for 7 days.
DirecTV Stream is comparable to fuboTV, as it provides similar channels and functionalities. Their basic package, priced at $86.99 per month with a free trial, includes just over 90 live TV channels. You can explore all of DirecTV Stream’s channel packages on their website.
What about other cable providers?
As I mentioned before, the only cable network this affects is Comcast. If you prefer to switch your cable plan altogether, here’s a few that you could choose from: DirecTV, Verizon Fios, Cox, Xfinity, Spectrum, Optimum
What else will this Comcast-YES Network dispute affect?
Along with the Yankees, those with Comcast in New York won’t have access to the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets have 10 remaining games on the schedule, all of which will air on YES Network. Without a deal in place, those with Comcast won’t have access to those games on cable.
