Indian cinema will once again shine on the global stage as Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound, starring Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor and Vishal Jethwa, is set to premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. The film has been selected for its world premiere under the prestigious Un Certain Regard section, known for spotlighting unique storytelling voices from across the world.
On May 14, the makers unveiled the first official poster of Homebound and confirmed its premiere date at the festival – May 21, 2025. Dharma Productions, which has backed the film, took to Instagram to reveal the update. “Some bonds carry us through. The Cannes selection also marks a milestone moment for director Neeraj Ghaywan, returning to feature films nearly a decade after his critically acclaimed debut Masaan in 2015. Adding to the excitement, legendary Hollywood filmmaker Martin Scorsese has joined Homebound as its executive producer.
In a statement, Scorsese shared why he was drawn to the project: “So, when Mélita Toscan du Plantier sent me the project of his second film, I was curious. I loved the story, the culture and was willing to help. Neeraj has made a beautifully crafted film that’s a significant contribution to Indian cinema. I am glad the movie is an official selection at Un Certain Regard in Cannes this year.”
Homebound follows the emotional journey of two childhood friends from a small Indian village who aspire to become police officers. However, as time and ambition take their toll, the bond between them begins to unravel. Along with the lead trio, the film also features Shalini Vatsa, Tushar Phulke and Pankaj Dubey.
Cannes Film Festival 2025 will run from May 13 to May 24, with Homebound among the few Indian titles making an international splash this year.
