Upon his return to the Indian cricket setup as the strength and conditioning coach, Adrian le Roux has suggested the introduction of Bronco Test to further improve the standards of players. The Bronco Test, a running test, is commonly used in rugby and other sports to check the aerobic endurances of athletes. This test is in addition to the Yo-Yo Test and 2-kilometer time trial used to check the fitness of India cricketers. As per a report in The Indian Express, it has been introduced especially for the fast bowlers to encourage them start running rather than being solely focused on gym sessions. A few contracted players have already taken the test at the BCCI’s Center. of Excellence in Bengaluru. “The Bronco Test has been introduced at the Centre of Excellence. Some of India’s contracted players have travelled to Bengaluru and have taken the test. The Bronco Test is being used to ensure there are clear fitness standards. Also, it was noticed that Indian cricketers, more so the fast bowlers, were not running enough and spending too much time in the gym. Players have been told that they will have to do more running,” the publication quoted a source as saying. What Is Bronco Test? The Bronco Test involves an athlete undergoing repeated shuttle runs over three distances. It starts with a 20-meter run (out and back making it 40m) followed by 40 meters ((out and back making it 80m) and then 60 meters (out and back making it 120m). An athlete must complete five sets of this without taking rest. Each round involved 240m running which brings the total distance to 1200 meters. How Is Scoring Done In Bronco Test? The time an athlete has taken to complete the five rounds is recorded – the shorter the time, the better is the score. Indian cricketers will reportedly have to complete the Bronco Test in six minutes.
