Indian shooter Raiza Dhillon clinched the silver medal in the women’s skeet event at the ISSF Junior World Cup on Thursday in Suhl, Germany. The Olympian managed to successfully strike 51 targets in the 60-shot final to end second behind Brit Phoebe Bodley-Scott, who shot 53. Germany’s Annabella Hettmer came in third. The victory also marked Raiza’s maiden individual ISSF World Cup medal at any level.
India secured its third medal in the prestigious tournament, and Raiza’s silver complements Kanak’s gold in the women’s air pistol event on Wednesday.

Raiza began the day in fourth place with a score of 71 after three qualifying rounds. She scored 22 and 23 in subsequent rounds to qualify second overall.
Her second-place finish was determined not by her total score of 116 over five rounds, but by winning a three-way 24-shot shoot-off against Phoebe and Hettmer.
Entering the final with confidence, Raiza hit four consecutive targets at the first station and was ranked second behind Phoebe after the first 10 targets, with one miss.
“Yesterday was okay, but today was really cold and windy,” Raiza commented after the final.
Kazakhstan’s Lidiya Basharova was eliminated after 20 targets, followed by Britain’s reigning junior world champion Madeleine Russell and Italy’s reigning junior European champion Arianna Nember. With 32 hits in the first 40 targets, Raiza secured a medal for India.

Aiming for gold, she hit 19 out of the next 20 targets. However, she could only reduce Phoebe’s three-target lead by one in the final 10 targets, ultimately settling for silver.
Raiza expressed her satisfaction: “It’s nice to have an ISSF World Cup medal. After changing my technique before the Olympics and adapting to it post-Olympics, I anticipated good results. I reached the final at the Peru senior World Cup and carried that confidence here. Now, I am focusing on the next Lonato World Cup.”
