Ghanaian winger Joseph Paintsil opened his 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) account in style, netting a decisive goal to help LA Galaxy end their record 16-match winless streak with a 2-0 victory over Real Salt Lake on Sunday afternoon at Dignity Health Sports Park.
The Galaxy, enduring the longest winless start to a season in MLS history, finally found relief in Round 17.
Lucas Sanabria broke the deadlock in the 17th minute with his first-ever MLS goal, setting the tone for the home side.
Paintsil, starting the match, extended the lead in the 55th minute with a moment of individual brilliance—latching onto a through ball from Gabriel Pec, cutting inside, and rifling a right-footed strike into the top right corner.
The 26-year-old Ghanaian was instrumental throughout his 71 minutes on the pitch, bringing pace, creativity, and a much-needed clinical edge to the Galaxy’s attack. After the match, Paintsil expressed his delight at finally finding the net this season and assured fans of more victories to come.
Despite the long-awaited win, LA Galaxy remains at the bottom of the Western Conference standings with just 7 points. Real Salt Lake sits slightly higher in 13th place with 15 points.
The Galaxy will aim to build on this result when they take on St. Louis CITY SC on June 14.
