GOLF: A total of K81, 000 was raised on Friday, June 6, during the 2025 Prime Minister’s Corporate Golf Challenge held at the Lae Golf Club to support Team PNG’s participation in the upcoming Pacific Mini Games in Palau.
The event attracted 27 registered teams from business houses and the local community, marking one of the strongest fundraising turnouts in recent years for the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee (PNGOC).
This year’s edition of the annual golf challenge, now in its 27th year, brought together corporate partners and sports supporters to help raise vital funds to support the country’s athletes as they prepare to represent PNG on the international stage.
The Pacific Mini Games will take place from June 29 to July 9 in Palau. The funds raised from the Lae event will go toward Team PNG’s preparations, logistics, and participation costs. PNGOC Senior Vice President Tony Green said the turnout and level of support from Lae-based companies and individuals showed how much Papua New Guineans value their athletes.
“This incredible turnout and support shows just how much our athletes mean to this country,” Mr. Green said. “The funds raised goes directly toward helping Team PNG prepare and compete at international competitions. With your support, our athletes will proudly carry the PNG flag onto the world stage.”
Mr. Green also extended thanks to all the teams that participated, and to every supporter who contributed to the success of the day.
