Businessperson King Msaiwale Kabvina, the owner of Champion Stadium in Mponela, Dowa, has given Lilongwe-based TNM Super League sides Kamuzu Barracks (KB) FC and Blue Eagles K20 million each towards their operations. Speaking during presentation at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe on Sunday evening, he said the gesture is meant to appreciate regular use of his facility by the two clubs. He said: “I have passion for football and I have a stadium which is used by several teams and as ‘Mr Champion’ I thought it wise to assist the two clubs. “I am hoping that the funds will help them cushion some of their needs such as players’ allowances and travel costs. “I am aware that there are some teams that are struggling financially. So, next time it could be Mighty Tigers or Rumphi United.” KB chairperson Major Dickson Mhango and Eagles’ chief administration officer Muhammad Ali thanked Kabvina for the support. Mhango, whose side uses Champion Stadium as its home ground, said: “We are happy with Mr Kabvina’s gesture as we did not expect it. “The donation will go a long way in mitigating the pressure on our budget and on behalf of the Malawi Defence Force Commander General Paul Velentino Phiri, I would like to thank Mr Kabvina for the financial boost.” On his part, Ali said: “As a team, we realise that running football is costly these days and, therefore, the funds will help us a lot in our daily operations. “I would also like to assure him that we will use the funds prudently.” Recently, Kabvina through his stadium, donated K30 million to the Football Legends Association towards the organisatikon of the upcoming match between Malawi Legends and their South African counterparts.
