Lenox High School eighth-grader Mia Freeman played varsity golf for the Millionaires the past two fall seasons. But in the spring, Freeman is front-and-center as one of few girl golfers coming out of the Berkshires. Girls golf is contested in the spring in other parts of the state, and the MIAA allows student-athletes like Freeman to compete in the postseason tournaments. So, Freeman teed it up last week in Boylston at The Haven Country Club. That was the site of the North/Central/West Sectional Tournament. Freeman shot a 13-over 85 to place 15th overall in a field of 76 golfers. That finish qualified her for the state championship on Wednesday. At The Haven, Freeman mixed it up with birdies on the 110-yard par-3 13th hole and the 275-yard par-4 18th hole. In fact, she played the back-nine in just 1-over par. Westford Academy's Maddie Smith won the tournament in 2-over 74. On Wednesday, Freeman competed at Sandy Burr Country Club in Wayland. At the state championship, she shot a 24-over 95 to finish 31st in a field of 63 golfers. Freeman's round feature two birdies, on the third and 17th holes, along with four pars. Concord-Carlisle's Erika Redmond won the state title with a 2-over 73. Wellesley High School won the team crown with a 74-over 358.
