Lewis Hamilton has delighted fans by recreating an iconic scene from a Hollywood film.
The seven-time Formula 1 champion will fulfil a childhood dream this weekend when he makes his racing debut for Ferrari at the Australian Grand Prix. And he has already ticked off another by using his production company, Dawn Apollo Films, to place himself in one of his favourite movies.
Hamilton posted on Instagram a clip from the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off, starring Matthew Broderick. But it was not the original scene from the movie, as became clear when Hamilton appeared on camera.
"No better way to start the season than by fulfilling another dream," he wrote alongside the clip. "Ferris Bueller's Day Off has been one of my favourite movies since I was a kid. This is to pay homage to the iconic film and to celebrate my first season with Ferrari.
"It definitely took a lot of cutting edge tech, production and planning to get right. Had to get the exact car too... it's been a dream car since seeing the movie. Shout out to the legendary @edwardnortonofficial for coming along for the ride. This is the energy and excitement I'm bringing to the track this year."
As the caption suggested, he was not the only famous face to make a cameo appearance in the reimagined scene. As Hamilton's character jumps a Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder over a hill, four-time Oscar nominee Edward Norton is seen in the passenger seat with the F1 legend.
It was in an interview with Time last month that Hamilton described the classic Ferrari as his "ultimate retirement car". He said: "I can just see myself with [pet bulldog] Roscoe, him with a scarf and goggles in the seat next to me, driving down the Pacific Coast Highway [in California].
While Hamilton had the time over the winter to devote to fun projects like this, he is now down to business in Melbourne. The Brit said he is "itching to get going" and begin his Ferrari racing career on a high with a strong performance at Albert Park this weekend.
He said: "It was difficult to know who's where. It looks really close between us all. But for me, I've been just itching to get going. I guess it's been a long time coming, and to think that this is my first Grand Prix, one of the one of those other firsts with the team, I feel very honoured and grateful to have the opportunity.
"I'm not here to prove anything to anybody. I never feel I have to do anything. I've been here a long time and done it time and time again. I know what it takes to do the job, and that's what I want to deliver for myself, my family, for this team that I really believe deserve success."
