There have been plenty of activities in various towns in Limpopo to mobilise soccer fans to attend the Bafana Bafana FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho on Friday. The two Southern African nations will go head-to-head at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium in Limpopo. The local organizing committee is optimistic that the tickets for the encounter will sell out, ensuring a packed stadium. Supporters have been urged to buy tickets for the fixture. Bafana Bafana fans across various parts of Limpopo are expecting the national team to clinch victory during its encounter with neighbouring Lesotho. Fans gathered at a shopping mall in Mankweng for an activation and crowd mobilization event. The attempt to galvanize support for Bafana was spearheaded by a local organizing committee, together with some well-known super fans. “We have the best in the defence. We can see we have Grant Kekana, we have experienced Percy Tau. So, Lesotho they are nothing, they going to get 3-0, just 3-0 then we are done with them,” says Elliot Malesela, Bafana Bafana fan. Some of the fans believe that the World Cup qualifiers match against ”Likoena” will see Bafana Bafana get a step closer to making an appearance in North America next year. “Like I’m ready to see Bafana Bafana live at Peter Mokaba Stadium. Like we have been waiting for such moment around Polokwane,” says one of the fans. “I’m happy because they are coming to our Peter Mokaba Stadium. So, we are going to be there to support,” another fan adds. “We are full of jubilation because they are coming to our stadium here. We will be there. Bafana Bafana will win 4-0,” a fan explains. Organisers of the activation initiative have visited several parts of the province, including Tzaneen and Burgersfort. Bafana Bafana have not played a game at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium in several years. And Polokwane hopes to secure future games by ensuring that Friday’s clash is a huge success. “The ticket sales are going very well right now actually. We are actually standing between 13 and 14,000 and then we can do better with this kind of activation we are doing here. We can definitely hope that we are going to fill up Peter Mokaba Stadium,” says Mike Taueatsoala, Local Organising Committee Chairperson. Coach Hugo Broos and the boys arrived in Polokwane on Monday. Broos also addressed members of the media regarding the status and readiness of the team. “Lesotho is a team. I think they can always do something more against South Africa than against other teams. So, it will be tough and then we have the game outside against Benin. The only advantage we have here is that Benin is playing in Ivory Coast. The big crowd, the supporters will not be there,” says Broos. Organizers of the activation campaign say 95% of all-suite tickets have already been sold.
