Louis Rees-Zammit has decided his future by re-signing for the Jacksonville Jaguars. The former rugby star has now been given a place on the NFL outfit’s active roster in a significant move for the 23-year-old. Last season the Welshman was on the team’s practice squad but was never elevated to the active roster to play in matches. In a statement, the Jaguars said: "The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed QB John Wolford and WR Louis Rees-Zammit to the active roster, the team announced today. “Rees-Zammit, a native of Penarth, Wales, is a member of the NFL’s International Player Pathway (IPP) Program. “He played for Gloucester of Premiership Rugby, England’s top rugby division, from 2018-24 and totalled 210 points in 77 club appearances. Internationally, Rees-Zammit represented Wales (2019-23) and the British & Irish Lions (2021). He recorded 105 points in 41 international appearances and became the youngest player since 1959 to be selected to the British & Irish Lions squad. “In 2024, Rees-Zammit spent training camp with the Kansas City Chiefs before signing to Jacksonville’s practice squad last August.” Rees-Zammit has been mulling over his next move having been released by the Florida outfit at the end of last season. He has now extended his stay. Speaking to ITV as part of their coverage of Superbowl LIX, which saw the Philadelphia Eagles ease their way to a 40-22 win over the Chiefs in New Orleans, the former Gloucester star said last week he was considering his next step: "Yeah, I'm looking for options. "I think in the next week or so we'll make a decision on where I am next year. But this past year has been crazy. A crazy experience. Mentally and physically it's been tough, but it's a journey I've always wanted to be on so I'm loving it."
