@Source: newsweek.com
Ludvig Aberg continued to make a name for himself this week at the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines. The tournament was relocated to San Diego amid the destruction of the Los Angeles Wildfires.Aberg made a spectacular ace almost at the beginning of his third round of the 2025 Genesis Invitational. It was the first hole-in-one of the Swedish star's PGA Tour career and helped propel him to third place on the leaderboard.The shot occurred on the 140-yard, par-3 3rd, where Aberg hit pitching wedge. It was such a quality shot that the ball landed about two feet past the hole, but with the precise reverse spin to roll right back into the hole.Aberg approached the third hole in a share of sixth place at 4-under. His ace moved him up three spots at 6-under, two shots behind Davis Thompson, who was leading the Genesis Invitational at the time.After his third round performance, Ludvig Aberg revealed that the ace was not only the first of his career on the PGA Tour, but the first he had ever made in a tournament at any level."Hit a little cut pitching wedge up in the wind and landed behind it and came back. It was a really cool moment. I've never made a hole-in-one in tournament play before, so it was a first for sure."Aberg also gave that shot a lot of credit for his title chances with only 18 holes remaining in the event:"It got me one closer," he said. "I like my chances."After his ace, Aberg birdied the 6th, 8th, 13th and 16th but bogeyed 4,10,12 and 14 for a 2-under round.He will enter the final round two shots off the pace, set by Patrick Rodgers. Denny McCarthy sits between them at 7-under.This was the sixth ace of the 2025 season on the PGA Tour. Curiously, all of them were made by international players: Sami Valimaki (Finland) and Kris Ventura (Norway) at the American Express, Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) and Shane Lowry (Ireland) at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Emiliano Grillo (Argentina) at the Phoenix Open.It had been 1,479 years since the 3rd hole at Torrey Pines had seen an ace in a PGA Tour event. The previous one was carded by Richy Werenski in the first round of the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open.More Golf: LPGA Tour Reveals Slow Play Policy Timeline, Results of Stiffer Penalties
