And now, his ex-girlfriend has shared a bittersweet glimpse into their last exchange—a text message that she describes as “very wild.” The actor passed away at the age of 54 due to acute effects of ketamine in October 2023. But just few days before that, he had sent a deeply emotional message to his ex, Ione Skye. In her new memoir, Say Everything, Skye shared a heartfelt and unexpected text she received from Matthew Perry before his passing. He wrote, “Hi! I hope all is well. I was meditating (I meditate now) and ‘In Your Eyes’ started playing. And I instantly thought of you and how beautiful you are… I hope you are healthy and happy.” Speaking to The Mirror US, Skye admitted the message caught her off guard, calling it “completely out of the blue.” Reflecting on his struggles, she added, “Anyone who’s in despair, it’s just the worst. And so I’m just like, ‘This is horrible.’” She continued, “And the thought of people can’t get out of those periods. It just, I feel for anyone like that.” Speaking about Matthew’s message, she then said, “It was very wild because every once in a while we text, but that was really out of the blue. So I was really surprised.” Skye shared that Perry’s message took her by surprise but also brought her a sense of warmth. “It was such a sweet text. It made me really happy,” she said, speaking to The Mirror US. In her memoir, Skye opened up about a lingering regret that she wished she had just called Matthew Perry when he texted her. “But no one really talks on the phone anymore,” she admitted. Instead, they exchanged a few warm messages before saying their goodbyes, not knowing it would be their last conversation. She reminisced about how they first met as teenagers and shared a special bond. “It was beautiful to have had that time together,” she said.
