Meghan Markle has announced her next career move after her Netflix series received mixed reviews.
Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex announced on her Instagram that she is launching a new podcast called Confessions Of A Female Founder, despite being labelled a 'grifter' by Spotify following their failed podcast venture. This time, the Duchess of Sussex, 43, is teaming up with Lemonada Media. The upcoming podcast is described by the US podcast company as inviting listeners “to be a fly on the wall as Meghan sits down for candid conversations with female founders and friends about the success, the struggles, and the never-before-told stories of building a business”, PA reports.
Lemonada said: “As Meghan (@meghan) herself navigates the world of entrepreneurship with the upcoming launch of her brand As Ever, be inspired by the real, unfiltered stories and lessons learned from notable female founders—from knowing your worth, to trusting your gut, securing investors, and investing in yourself.”
Meanwhile, Meghan shared a post on her Instagram page to share the news. She wrote in the caption: "I’m so excited to share with you something else I’ve been working on: “Confessions of a Female Founder,” my new podcast with @lemonadamedia!
“I’ve been having candid conversations with amazing women who have turned dreams into realities, and scaled small ideas into massively successful businesses. They’re opening up, sharing their tips, tricks (and tumbles), and letting me pick their brains as I build out my own business, As ever. It has been absolutely eye-opening, inspiring…and fun! (Because what’s the point if we can’t have some fun on this wild adventure?) First episode is April 8th!“
A trailer will be released on March 25 while the first episode drops on April 8. It follows Meghan’s Archetypes podcast about female stereotypes which ran for just one series and was part of the Sussexes’ previous deal with Spotify which ended in 2023.
After their Archetypes podcast was scrapped by Spotify, an executive of the company branded The Duke and Duchess of Sussex "f**king grifters". Bill Simmons, Head of Podcast Innovation and Monetisation at Spotify hit out at the pair in his own podcast last year.
He said: “The f***ing grifters. That's the podcast we should have launched with them.“ The Spotify boss added: “I've got to get drunk one night and tell the story of the Zoom I had with Harry to try and help him with a podcast idea. It's one of my best stories.“
Although the couple's deal with Spotify ended in their podcast being axed, the Duke and Duchess' links with streaming giant Netflix has continued to flourish. The couple released a documentary titled Harry & Meghan in 2022, where they detailed their time with The Royal Family and their explosive decision to leave The Firm.
Since then, Meghan has gone on to release lifestyle show With Love, Meghan with the streaming giant. However, since its release, the programme has received mixed reviews. The show was savaged by critics but just about reached Netflix's global top 10 last week with 2.6million views.
In the UK, With Love, Meghan made it to number seven in last week's top 10, while in the United States it also just scraped into the top 10. A second series of the programme has been confirmed.
