They're regarded as the 'Oscars' of the hospitality world, and now an internationally renowned awards has released its shortlist. The Cateys will return to JW Marriott Grosvenor House London in July to honour and celebrate 'exceptional talent and pioneering businesses in hospitality'. This special night in the industry calendar is a celebration of excellence, and the trailblazers in hotel, restaurant and service. In a milestone year for the biggest awards of their kind in the hospitality industry, the strongest performers, latest emerging brands and highest flyers in the sector, as determined by the industry itself, will be revealed. More than 100 judges, chosen for their expertise and industry knowledge, and past success as Catey winners themselves, met for three days of debate to discuss the nominees and produce the shortlist. Categories include Best Marketing, Chef Award, Hotel of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Pub and Bar Award and Restaurateur of the Year, amongst others. This year's shortlist includes a number of Greater Manchester-based businesses including Rudy's Pizza which has been nominated in the Best Marketing Campaign category. The Cateys say that the award is open to hotel, restaurant, leisure or foodservice operators that have launched innovative, creative and effective campaigns to promote their products and drive custom and business. Rudy's Pizza was established in Ancoats in 2015. The company was founded by Jim Morgan and Kate Wilson, who later sold it onto Mission Mars. It now boasts 32 locations across the UK including five locations in Greater Manchester. Meanwhile, in the Newcomer Award category, which The Cateys describes as being open to those who have 'taken a risk and seized an opportunity', is lauded Manchester restaurant, Skof . The restaurant, which is run by chef Tom Barnes, was awarded a Michelin Star - less than a year after opening in Manchester city centre . It is the second in Manchester to hold the accolade, alongside Mana in Ancoats. And in the Sustainable Business Award category, which recognises the hospitality business that has taken the most innovative steps to minimise its impact on the environment, The University of Manchester has been shortlisted. The winners, representing British hospitality at its best, will be revealed at a glittering event on 7 July at JW Marriott Grosvenor House London.
