One of the biggest evolving prospects in Tesla’s business is the rollout and adoption of its robotaxi vehicles and services. The service has been rolled out in parts of Texas with plans of expansion in California and, according to Elon Musk, much greater expansion is expected before the end of the year. The Tesla CEO shared that he expects the company’s robotaxi service will “probably” serve half the United States population by the end of this year. Elon Musk made this statement during the Tesla Q2 2025 earnings call that came alongside its earnings results this week. The robotaxi service has been made available in limited capacity in Austin, Texas, and is seeking authorization to run in San Francisco, California’s Bay Area and the state of Arizona. According to Elon, the service could “probably” be escalated and and expanded to be provided throughout the United States by the end of 2025. Musk went as far as to say he was confident that robotaxi services would find its home in many more major cities in the US before this year is over. The rollout of the robotaxi has been one of Tesla’s largest priorities as it continues to develop autonomous driving technologies. The service and the vehicles that support it run completely free of consumer input past the ordering of a ride, but the continued work has also kept the vehicles at a premium price. It seems more than ambitious to expect that robotaxi service could be adopted by half the United States population by the end of 2025, but we’ll keep an eye out for updates as they drop. Stay tuned to the Tesla topic for more updates.
