The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has formally lodged a complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) after its official was sidelined during the presentation ceremony following the Champions Trophy 2025 final. The incident has sparked controversy and raised concerns about protocol violations at a high-profile ICC event.
According to PCB, the board’s representative was not allowed to join the stage during the prize distribution ceremony, despite being one of the host nation’s key stakeholders. The final match, which was hosted in Pakistan, marked a significant moment for the country’s cricketing revival on the global stage. However, the apparent exclusion of the PCB official from the ceremonial proceedings has overshadowed the celebrations.
In its complaint, the PCB expressed disappointment over the breach of standard protocol and termed it a disrespect to the host nation. The board emphasized that such actions not only undermine its role but also send a negative message about Pakistan’s contribution to the successful hosting of the tournament.
The ICC is yet to respond officially to the complaint, but the incident has already stirred debate within the cricketing fraternity. Experts and former players have questioned the management and coordination behind such an international event, where protocol and host nation dignity should be maintained at all costs.
This development comes at a time when Pakistan has been working diligently to project a positive image of its cricket infrastructure and capabilities. The Champions Trophy 2025 was seen as a crucial milestone, and PCB’s involvement was central to its success. The board now seeks clarity and accountability from the ICC to ensure such oversights do not occur in future global tournaments.
The PCB has also hinted at raising this issue at the upcoming ICC board meeting, reiterating its commitment to upholding fair representation and respect for hosting nations in international cricket events
