Police update on Aston Wood Golf Club crash which left woman fighting for her life

Police have provided an update on the crash at a Sutton Coldfield golf course which left a woman fighting for her life. The incident took place at Aston Wood Golf Club in Blake Street on the Sutton/ Staffordshire border on Friday (April 11) morning shortly before 10.30am. A grey Nissan van was being pursued by West Midlands Police officers when it careered onto a golf course and struck a woman in her 60s. Multiple emergency services rushed to the scene, including the Midlands Air Ambulance, which airlifted the woman to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The grey Nissan ended up in a ditch close to the first hole of the golf course – but those inside it remain at large. Police are now appealing for information to trace the driver of the grey van and its two passengers who fled the scene after the crash. In particular they are after dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage of “anyone travelling on foot on Blake Street and Birmingham Road between Sutton Coldfield and Shenstone after the collision.” “In a statement, a spokeswoman for Staffordshire Police said: “As our investigation continues at pace, we are continuing to appeal for dashcam footage after a serious collision in Shenstone. “We were called to Aston Wood Golf Club on Blake Street at 10.25am on Friday (11 April) after a grey Nissan van struck a member of the public on the golf course following a pursuit by West Midlands Police officers. “The driver and two passengers, all men, from the van ran off from the golf club and remain outstanding. “We’re working hard to trawl through CCTV, speak to witnesses and investigate their movements in order to locate them. “We are particularly interested in dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage of anyone travelling on foot on Blake Street and Birmingham Road between Sutton Coldfield and Shenstone after the collision." The statement continued: “A woman in her 60s remains in a critical condition in hospital. Her family are being supported by specialist officers. “The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is investigating West Midlands Police Officers’ involvement prior to the collision. “We’ve created an online portal where people can leave information they may have.
