Cairo: A Saudi charity group is hosting a mass Iftar or fast-breaking gathering daily during which hundreds of meals are provided at sunset in the current Muslim holy month of Ramadan.During the lunar month, Muslims abstain from eating and drinking every day from dawn to sunset when they have their Iftar meal, usually starting with nourishing dates.The Association for Preaching, Guidance, and Community Awareness in Al Rayn Governorate, part of the Riyadh region, is organizing a daily mass Iftar in Ramadan.The group's head Sheikh Saeed bin Abdullah said the association distributes nearly 700 Iftar meals daily, each consisting of rice, soup, juice, yogurt, fruit, dates, water, and pastries."The association has allocated a location for serving Iftar meals to those fasting, accommodating more than 600 people. Meanwhile, more than 100 takeaway Iftar meals are given away to travellers," he told the Saudi news portal Sabq.Benevolence surges during Ramadan, expected this year to end on March 29.Many Saudis are keen to distribute prepared Iftar meals or hosting collective banquets for people during Ramadan.A Saudi woman is hosting an Iftar banquet in a site next to her house for around 500 fasting people daily during Ramadan in Al Badayea Governorate in the kingdom's central region of Al Qassim, reported the Saudi-owned TV Al Arabiya.The banquet started modestly around 20 years ago and has since gradually expanded.Her son Ali Al Jaloud said the number of the hosted people at the daily banquet currently ranges from 400 to 500, with 90% of them being expat workers.
