Seized lorries turn Tirur roadside into wild zone, locals demand urgent action
@Source: newskarnataka.com
Tirur: A roadside stretch near the DYSP office in Tirur has turned into a mini jungle, as dozens of impounded vehicles lie forgotten and swallowed by overgrowth. What was once a regular road now teems with dense weeds, tangled creepers, and lurking dangers—raising serious concerns among local residents.
Nearly 60 lorries, most of them seized for illegal sand mining, have been left idle for years along the wall of the DYSP office. Another 37 vehicles lie abandoned nearby, left untouched as their owners, fearing legal trouble, refuse to reclaim them.
With the arrival of the monsoon, the area has become overrun with thick vegetation, making it an ideal hideout for snakes and stray dogs. People now fear walking along this stretch, which leads from the DYSP office to Pottilathara.
These vehicles aren’t just eyesores—they block a considerable part of the road, affecting traffic flow. This route also marks the entry point to the upcoming Police Line–Ponmundam bypass. According to the Public Works Department, construction to link this road to the bypass flyover is expected to begin within two weeks, likely boosting traffic volume further.
Frustrated locals have urged authorities to auction off the rusting lorries and clear the area. Police officials, however, claim the lack of an appropriate storage yard is delaying the relocation. They assure that the vehicles will be shifted once a suitable spot is identified.
