RORY McILROY has opened up on his daughter Poppy's "overwhelmed" reaction to her sensational putt before The Masters. The four-year-old stole the show at Augusta with a brilliant shot that ended up going straight in. It drew a jubilant reaction from both her dad and Shane Lowry, but McIlroy revealed that the crowd's roar gave her a bit of a fright. Speaking on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, he revealed: "She got super overwhelmed. "I don’t think she expected the loud cheer, so she started to cry a little bit and I picked her up. "When we got back to the clubhouse she wanted to see the video, so she looked at it. "She studied it, and then she turned to me and said, ‘It’s okay daddy, I don’t think they caught me crying!’ "That’s all she was worried about but it was an amazing moment.” The week ended with the world No2 finally getting his hand on the green jacket after beating Justin Rose in a play-off. It brought an end to a decade-long wait for another Major, with the relief pouring out of McIlroy as he went back to the clubhouse. The Holywood man was greeted by his wife Erica, daughter Poppy, and friend Shane Lowry as the tears flowed. He received congratulations on achieving the career grand slam from all corners, including Elton John. He recalled their interaction, or at least, as close as they've had to one so far. The Down native laughed: "I was sort of overwhelmed with the people that reached out from all different walks of life. "But the one that got me was Sir Elton John. "That was incredible. "I actually haven't been able to connect with him though. "So his assistant left me a voicemail and said 'Sir Elton would love to congratulate you in person. The only problem is...he doesn't have a cellphone! So you might get a call from a number in Windsor, England off a landline.' "But I was like 'Sure! That's absolutely fine!' We haven't been able to connect yet but I'd love to get to chat to him. "I just think that's so cool. Like, it's Elton John! I didn't even know that Elton John cared about golf."
