@Source: news18.com
Smriti Mandhana is one of the best batters of all time in women’s cricket, and on Wednesday (July 16), she entered her name in the list of top 10 leading run getters in women’s ODIs. The 28-year-old left-handed batter opened the innings for the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side against England in the 259-run chase in the match taking place at The Rose Bowl Stadium in Southampton and scored 28 runs from 24 balls with the help of five fours.
She needed 20 runs in the match to go past England batter Tammy Beaumont’s tally of 4492 runs, and she achieved the objective by taking two runs on the last ball of the sixth ball bowled by Lauren Bell.
By crossing the 27-run mark during her stay at the crease in the series opener, Mandhana also completed 4500 runs in women’s ODIs. She is the second Indian batter after Mithali Raj to score more than 4500 runs in women’s ODIs.
The world record for scoring the most runs in women’s ODIs is held by Mithali. During her 23-year-long career, Mithali played 232 ODIs for India and, with the help of seven centuries and 64 half-centuries, amassed a total of 7805 runs.
