A suspect in the alleged gangland shooting of Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jnr is set to be extradited to Spain, if approved by a UK court.
Merseyside Police confirmed a 44-year-old man, from Merseyside, was arrested in connection with the incident which took place at Monaghans Bar in Fuengirola, in the Costa Del Sol region of Spain, on 31 May.
We previously reported how the man was taken into custody under an international arrest warrant issued by the Spanish authorities. It comes after Monaghan, 43, and Lyons Jnr, 46, were shot dead last month.
He appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court on Saturday (June 14) for the commencement of extradition proceedings to Spain. His exact identity has not been revealed at this stage.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm yesterday evening, Friday 13 June, a man was arrested in connection with two fatal shootings in Spain on 31 May.
"The 44-year-old man from Merseyside appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court this morning, Saturday 14 June, for the commencement of extradition proceedings to Spain. He has been remanded into custody to appear in court at a later date."
